Naia Ōkami,

a prominent figure in the therian and otherkin communities, became the subject of controversy in 2022 due to her involvement with Hypnotist Sappho, an online personality known for promoting zoophilia and accused of grooming minors. Naia entered a romantic relationship with Sappho and another individual known as BeccaTheShep. Later, Naia claimed her intent was to gather evidence to expose Sappho’s behavior. However, this justification was widely criticized as unethical and ineffective, especially since no evidence was ever released publicly or shared with authorities. The situation came to a head on June 12, 2022, when a Twitter user named @TheArch1o1 posted a detailed exposé alleging that Naia had defended Sappho, used fake email addresses to pretend she was reporting her to law enforcement, rejoined toxic forums to spread disinformation, and made efforts to suppress criticism. Following this, the furry and therian communities reacted with widespread backlash, accusing Naia of enabling abuse and manipulating the situation for personal control. In August 2024, Naia posted an open letter addressing the controversy, referencing her personal trauma and claiming her intentions were misunderstood.

Though some offered her sympathy, many remained unconvinced, citing the lack of transparency and accountability. Throughout all of this, BeccaTheShep—named as part of the polyamorous relationship—remains an obscure figure with no verifiable public identity or known statements. While Naia has continued to participate in online communities, her reputation has been permanently damaged, and she is no longer regarded as a trustworthy or representative voice by much of the community. Since then, independent researchers and community members have collected extensive evidence proving that Naia intentionally sabotaged the effort to expose Sappho, willingly entered a relationship with her, and actively attempted to cover up her involvement after the fact. This evidence includes archived messages, deleted posts, and corroborating witness accounts that confirm her actions were deliberate and not the result of misunderstanding or failed intentions.
